Jacques Richard Cornet, 90, formerly of Closter, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at his home in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Born on May 23, 1935, in Englewood, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Jacques Henri Cornet and Marie Antoinette (de La Chapelle).
Jacques graduated from the Englewood Boys School in 1954 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Following his service, he built a long and fulfilling career in advertising, working first at Young & Rubicam, and later with Newspapers First in New York City.
On June 20, 1964, Jacques married Mary Lou (Aragona) in Spring Lake, New Jersey. Together, they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Jacques was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who placed family at the center of his life. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at their events. Jacques delighted in simple pleasures such as watching sports, enjoying family recipes like his favorite coffee cake, making popovers for his granddaughters, and never saying no to a bowl of ice cream.
Jacques was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Lou; his parents, Jacques and Marie Antoinette; his sister, Marie Antoinette Van Doren; and his brother, Jean Cornet.
He is survived by his three children: Jacques Cornet Jr. and wife Jill of New York City, Peter Cornet and wife Sue of Bridgewater, New Jersey and Anne Cornet and wife Rose Labriola of Durham, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Helene Clarke; and his 7 adored granddaughters, Nicole, Olivia, Katie, Abby, Julie, Sarah, and Sophie; along with many nieces and nephews.
