Irving V. Stoveken passed away surrounded by his loving family and devoted caregiver on Wednesday, May 8, at Somerset Medical Center.

He was born to William and Mary Stoveken on February 16, 1920. He was married to Florence Smith in September 1942 and moved to Hillsborough where he still resided.

Mr. Stoveken worked for American Cyanamid and retired from Ethicon in 1985. A Navy Veteran of WW II, he enlisted in the Seabees in August 1942 and served in the South Pacific, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, New Georgia and Okinawa where he built roads and air fields. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

In his early years, Mr. Stoveken was active in Hillsborough Little League, Pop Warner and Little Dukes Football League. His memberships included the Raritan Valley Masonic Lodge #46 and Tall Cedar FWD #48 of Somerville, the VFW Post 2290 of Manville and the Somerville Rod and Gun Club where he served as a past president. He enjoyed many wonderful summers at his home at the Jersey Shore, where he was affectionately known as "Harbor Master and "Seashore Poppy".

He is predeceased by his wife of almost 70 years Florence who passed away in June 2012 and his siblings Arthur and Gurd. Surviving are his daughter Susan Tozzi, husband Frank of Hillsborough, his son Jerry, his wife Brenda of Hanover, VA., grandchildren Carlene Lau, husband Scott, Alicia D'Egidio, husband Michael, Kristin Smith, husband Jay, Kyle and Trevor Stoveken and 5 great grandchildren. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours from 4pm-7pm on Sunday, May 12, at the Cusick Funeral Home in Somerville. Funeral Service 1:30pm on Monday, May 13, at the funeral home. Interment Neshanic Cemetery, Hillsborough.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Hillsborough Rescue Squad, PO Box 434, Neshanic, NJ 08853.
