Henry Gerald Grote, “Jerry”, 86, of Melbourne, Florida, died peacefully on March 26, 2022. Born in Newark, New Jersey to the late Henry and Helen Grote (nee Murawski), he was raised in Elizabeth and then Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. After high school, Jerry joined the United State Airforce where he received training as an FAA Air Traffic Controller. He went on to become an Air Traffic Control Supervisor at JFK and Newark International Airports for twenty three years (and four months) before his retirement. He met his wife, the late Marie Kropewnicki, while she was working at the Court Theatre in Somerville. They started their family and settled to Neshanic Station before moving to Melbourne, Florida in the 1990’s. Jerry was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his group of friends both in New Jersey and Florida. He liked to stay up with the advancements in computer technology and enjoyed spending time learning about computers. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie Grote in 2011. Surviving are his daughters, Linda Weaver and husband Ed and Lorraine Derhammer and husband Gary, his grandchildren, Kathleen (Brendan), Halle, and Ethan, his brother Fabian Grote and wife Monica, as well as his extended family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to gather for visitation on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00AM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.
