Helen Elizabeth Grill

June 14, 1927 — December 30, 2022

Helen Elizabeth Grill, 95, died peacefully on December 30, 2022.

Born in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey to the late Alfred and Ida Emmons (nee Huff), she was a graduate of the former Flemington High School. She met and married the love of her life, James Grill, and settled in Somerville where they raised their family. Mrs. Grill worked at Vanderveer School for many years in the cafeteria and then the Somerville YMCA as a day care provider. Helen then went to work for Anson Norton Wholesale Florist and retired to Bethlehem, PA where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

Helen had a lifelong love of animals. She adored her furry and feathered friends, especially Mama Racoon and the babies. Her love of cats led her to have an extensive collection she and her family cherished for generations. She was a longtime supporter of the ASPCA and feeding the animals in her yard.

Helen moved to Port Charlotte, Florida with her daughter and son-in-law where she enjoyed the peace of everyday life. Daily coffee and reading the newspaper, front to back, and doing word puzzles kept her mind sharp. She watched her game shows, like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and spent quality time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be missed dearly.

She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband James Grill who has been waiting for her since 1979.

Surviving are her devoted daughter Rebecca Silliman and husband David, her loving son Alfred Grill, her cherished grandchildren Timothy Silliman and Jamie Goodman and husband Scott, and her adored great-grandsons Mason and Riley.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00AM on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Union Avenue, Somerville.

Helen was a longtime supporter of the ASPCA, Wounded Warrior Fund, Disabled Veterans of America, and many other veterans and animal based charities. Please consider making a memorial contribution in her memory to the charity of your choice.
