Gordon Jay Sherman, 83, died peacefully on December 29, 2023.
Born in Logan, West Virginia to the late Benjamin and Miriam Sherman, he graduated high school from Charleston High School, and went on to attend West Virginia University, where he achieved his bachelor’s degree.
Gordon met the love of his life, Lana Cohen while working in Pittsburg, PA and the two were married in 1966. They settled to West Virginia where they began their family. Mr. Sherman worked managing his family’s retail businesses for years, moving to New Jersey to join one of their locations, where he has worked in retail management for decades.
Mr. Sherman was known for accenting his stature with Stetson hats, bringing an old world gentleman style with him through the years. He always brought out a $2 bill, just to bring a smile and some conversation to those he met. Above all, his family was the most important part of his life. He found joy in every family gathering and event held together. Gordon was a fan of West Virginia University sports, never straying far from his roots.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen and Paul Sherman.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Lana Sherman, his loving children Hillary Sherman-Wicks and husband Stephen Wicks, and Joel Sherman and fiancé Melissa Binetti, his cherished grandchildren Sophia, Sabrina, and Andrew, a sister in law Janice, as well as his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
