Age 80
Long-time Martinsville, NJ resident Frances (Fran) Kay passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011, surrounded by family. She touched many lives with her profound compassion, love for family and friends and sparkling laughter.
Fran was born in Elmira, NY on October 23, 1930. She was raised in Elmira and graduated from Elmira College in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a histologist for Johnson & Johnson for over 35 years, where she considered her colleagues to be like family. She was also an incredibly talented chef and ran a catering business where she helped numerous families celebrate their most joyous occasions.
Fran volunteered at the Washington Valley Library because she loved to read and give others access to great books. She was an avid bridge player and played every day at lunch, in several local bridge groups and then mastered duplicate bridge at the Bridge Center in Branchburg and won tournaments all over NJ. She was also active in the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation as she was committed to helping young women attend college and succeed in their careers. Fran was predeceased by her parents Mary and Albert Robibero and her sister Celeste Spetaccino. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years David Kay, and 3 beloved daughters, Jennifer Sheehan of Glenwood, MD, Susan Campbell of Annandale, NJ and Judy Kay of Pleasanton, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jack, Matthew and Julia Sheehan of Glenwood, MD and Brigid and William Campbell of Annandale, NJ. Her loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Thursday, October 13, with a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 14 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament at 1890 Washington Valley Road, Martinsville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the Washington Valley Library at MCC/Washington Valley Library, PO Box 487, Martinsville, NJ 08836.
