Ellen Egan Sterritt, 96, of Squantum, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at her residence at Emeritus Senior Living in Hillsborough, New Jersey, on May 17, 2013, with her family by her side.
Ellen was born on April 27, 1917 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Edward Egan (Canada) and Ellen Cullinane (Ireland). She graduated from Girls Latin School in Boston, Boston University, and Boston University Law School in 1940. She was a long time member of the Massachusetts Bar and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners for over thirty years, retiring at the age of 83.
Ellen is survived by her sons, Doctor Frederic Cullinane Sterritt (Darlene) of Neshanic Station, New Jersey, Christopher James Sterritt, Esquire, (Kathy) of Annapolis, Maryland, and Timothy Egan Sterritt, Esquire, (Kathy ) of Milton, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her nieces Carol Bennett of New Hampshire, Pamela Burke of Massachusetts, and her nephews Albert Egan of Massachusetts, and George Jerry Sterritt of Massachusetts. Finally, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Grace Sterritt, and Shannon Sterritt, both of New York City, Megan Sterritt and Tyler Sterritt ,both of Florida, and Justin Sterritt, Meredith Sterritt, and Andrew Sterritt of Massachusetts.
Finally, her beloved husband, Frederic E. Sterritt, her brother, Albert Egan, and her parents preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, New Jersey, at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 22, 2013 and the burial will take place 1pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy, Massachusetts.
