Edward W. Martin. World War II Army veteran. Retired from Hearst Corporation and Somerset County Park Commission. Edward W. (Ed) Martin passed away on May 22nd at his home.
Born Nov. 16th, 1926, in Jersey City to William and Rose (Ennis) Martin, Ed attended St. John’s Grammar School and Seton Hall Prep. Following graduation from high school, Ed entered the Army and served in the Pacific. After being honorably discharged, he attended Seton Hall College, graduating in 1950.
Ed began his career in publishing with the Wall Street Journal as a circulation manager and retired from the Hearst Corporation in the same capacity. He immediately began a second career with the Somerset County Park Commission as a pro shop attendant, retiring in 2011.
Ed was predeceased by his daughter Maureen. He is survived by his sister Maryjane as well as his children Kevin and wife Diane, Bill and wife Joanne, and Kathy and husband Ed Dugan. He also leaves five grandchildren, Dan, Kellie and husband Nick, Kyle, Kevin, and Liam.
The family would like to thank Anita’s Angels and the compassionate care provided by his health aide Ama, as well as his kind and caring neighbors George, Diane and John.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville on Thursday, May 26th at 11:00 AM.
