Donna Sue Carney, 79, died peacefully on December 12, 2025.
Born in York, Pennsylvania to the late Richard A. and Marion Wilt (nee Mecier), she moved at a young age to Los Angeles where she graduated from High School.
She went on to work as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell. Her ability to learn and grow led her to advance with the company, spanning an impressive career lasting thirty eight years.
In 1959 while at a pool in LA she met the love of her life, David S. Carney, and the two enjoyed walks on Van Nuys Boulevard and looking at all the cars and scenery. David was drafted into the United States Navy in 1966 and the two were married on his return from boot camp.
They settled in Van Nuys where she worked for Bell Technologies while Mr. Carney proudly served our country, and went home to New Jersey to the police academy. She gave him unwavering support throughout his time and in 1970 the Carney’s settled to Scotch Plains, NJ.
In a time where women in the corporate world were seen and not heard, Donna blazed her own path. She was efficient, intelligent, and understood the evolving telecommunication technology. As the company transitioned from Bell to Verizon and IBM, Mrs. Carney went on to become an Executive with Verizon Engineering and worked throughout Union and Somerset Counties. During the devastation of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Mrs. Carney and her team devoted themselves at Ground Zero to plan the infrastructure and reconnect New York City’s communication. Her and her teams efforts were tireless and rounded out her career with Verizon. She enjoyed three years of retirement before her strong will led her back to do consulting work and lectures.
Donna was a devout Catholic and Parishioner of The Church of The Immaculate Conception in Somerville. She and David are former residence of Fanwood, and Bedminster before settling to their home in Bridgewater. She enjoyed the quality tie spent together going out to eat, walking, staying active and keeping her mind sharp.
She is survived by her beloved husband, David S. Carney, her dear sister Carol Ann Rosselli, and her cherished cat Abigail.
