Colonel Donald Stewart Fraser, Jr. passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022. Don resided in Holly Ridge, NC at the time of his death, but spent a majority of his life in New Jersey. Don was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 9,1934 to Donald S. Fraser and Martha Plank Fraser.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Martha Fraser, his wife, Marilyn Fraser, his daughter, Laurie Polaski and his son, Donald Fraser, III. Surviving are his daughters, Karen Nixon and her husband, Randy Nixon in Ashburn, VA and Linda Martin and her husband Dante Martin in Holly Ridge, NC. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Kathryn Polaski, Michael Polaski, Andrew Nixon, Ryan Nixon, Meghan Nixon and Harrison Martin, Jacob Martin and Marilyn Martin. Also surviving are his sister, Susan Fraser in Gainesville, FL and his brother, Malcolm Fraser and his wife, Janet Fraser in Fairfax Station, VA.
Don graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University. While at Bucknell, Don was in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army upon his graduation. It was at Bucknell that he met and fell in love with Marilyn, his wife of 41 years.
Don began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad as a Junior Engineer and Assistant Track Supervisor. He then moved onto the New York Telephone Company, holding various engineering positions until New York Bell split. At that time, he began working for AT&T, then NBC Corporation and finally retired from Bovis Construction Company in 2003.
Don was an active member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working as an Engineer on the railroad relating to track maintenance, bridge repairs and providing recommendations for rehabilitation until he retired with a rank of Colonel.
Don’s greatest joy was his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them play various sports and pursuing their goals. Don had a great passion for the railroad, his Scottish heritage and the U.S. Army.
His funeral will take place graveside at St. Bernard Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bridgewater, NJ on April 1, 2023 at 11:00am.
