Devany Lee Booth Carinha

October 18, 1964 — January 5, 2025

Devany Lee Booth Carinha, 60, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on January 5, 2025. She is now free from the physical burdens she carried so gracefully for much of her life.

Born on October 18, 1964, in Elizabeth, NJ, Devany spent her early years in Scotch Plains before settling in Whitehouse Station, where she filled her life with love, laughter, and music. She was the beloved daughter of Lansing Thomas Booth and Betsy Jane Booth (deceased) and a devoted sister to Roxanne Booth (deceased), JR Booth, Kristy A. Booth (Ball), and Robert Booth.

Devany’s early years were marked by a bold, free-spirited nature that made her unforgettable. She was the life of the party, the ruler breaker, and the source of joy and inspiration to everyone lucky enough to know her. She embraced every moment fearlessly. Even after her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis in her late-teens, a challenge that would shape the rest of her life, Devany never lost her spark.

Her fight was never accompanied with complaints. Her resilience, a lesson in gratitude for everyone around her—she taught us all to cherish what truly matters and to live with an open heart.

Devany’s love of music was one of her greatest joys. It was her comfort, her voice, and her way of traveling to places her body couldn’t take her. She had an uncanny ability to remember the lyrics to every song, especially from her favorite genres—classic country, 60s, and 70s music. Her favorites ranged from Sonny & Cher to Tanya Tucker, and each note transported her and, when you sang along, she would take you with her.

Her parents, Lansing and Betsy Booth, cared for her with unwavering devotion, creating a home filled with love, safety, and connection. Devany’s family was her world, and she was theirs. She leaves behind her son, Victor, who will never go a day without missing her smile, her laugh, and an unfinished book earmarked for when they meet again.

Devany’s love was profound, a gift she gave freely to everyone around her. In moments when others sought to comfort her, she somehow became the source of comfort, a reassurance that only she could give.

She relished in forming unshakeable bonds, a talent for ceramics, in the small squares of chocolate that made her giggle, and in the simple joys of shared moments.

Her frequent refrain, “I want to go home,” carried many meanings. It symbolized not just a longing for comfort but also her unyielding desire for connection and peace. Now, Devany is finally home, free from constraint and reunited with her beloved mother, Betsy, and sister, Roxanne.

Devany’s legacy is one of courage, love, and gratitude. She taught us all to love deeply, to face challenges with grace, and to find joy in the music of life.

Devany’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout her journey. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, reminding us to embrace life fully, love fiercely, and always carry the music with us.
