Derrick Christopher Lee, 46, died suddenly at home on July 30, 2023.
Born in Freeport, IL to Raymond and Gail Lee nee Moreyra, he attended Immaculate Conception School, before graduating from Immaculata High School in 1995. Derrick went on to do his undergraduate studies at Villanova University. After spending a year in Hong Kong serving an internship with a barrister, he was inspired to pursue his law degree, graduating from the New England School of Law in Boston with his Juris Doctorate. He settled in Hoboken where he has resided for the past twenty years. Derrick worked as a Customer Success Manager with Denodo in New York City.
Inspired by his family’s roots in Wisconsin, he was a devoted lifelong Green Bay Packers football fan. He was also a dedicated New York Yankees baseball fan, and Villanova University Basketball fan for his alma mater. As most of the current Knicks roster is comprised of former Villanova players, he just recently declared himself a VillaKnicks fan. He was into Muay Thai and enjoyed watching sporting events with his family and friends.
Derrick was an intellectual, and spent his time reading and pushed others to read, advocating for self-education and awareness. He was compassionate and donated to animal shelters and financially sponsored a little girl in the Philippines, Dada, who he has supported for years. He will be remembered for his intelligent humor, care for others, and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Surviving are his dear parents Raymond and Gail Lee, his loving sister Heather Lee and wife Jennifer Grace, his cherished fiancé Shannon Bellick and daughter Laila Shapiro, as well as his extended family, colleagues, and friends.
