Dennis James Patullo

Dennis James Patullo, 71, died peacefully on August 16, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Dennis was born in Somerville to Nicholas and Theresa Patullo on January 12, 1951. He was raised in Bound Brook and graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1969.

After graduating from high school, he secured a job at the United States Postal Service. In 1979, he began to work for the Bound Brook Police Department before enrolling in the New Jersey State Police Training Center in Sea Girt, NJ. After graduating from the academy in 1982, Dennis continued his career with the Bound Brook Police Department. In 1987, Dennis was recruited by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and enjoyed a 25-year career before retiring as a Detective Lieutenant. Throughout Dennis’ career, he was responsible for the daily operations of many units, which included the Arson Task Force, Crime Scene and Forensics, Fugitive, Computer Crime and Forensics, Intelligence, and Electronic Surveillance Units. Dennis’ career led to numerous awards and accolades, including a 200 Club Award for Narcotic Investigations, multiple Police Response Action Awards for rescues and resuscitations, and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Meritorious Service Medal. Dennis was a lifetime member of the Somerset County PBA Local 307. He was also a member of the Bound Brook Hose Company No. 1, where he served as a firefighter for 7 years.

Dennis was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and former season ticket holder. Dennis enjoyed fast cars and racing, spending time at Englishtown Raceway. Dennis had a love of the Jersey Shore, where he spent much of his time boating, relaxing, and enjoying many good meals with family and friends. He enjoyed family vacations taking cruises to the Caribbean, especially Aruba. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and civil servant, having had a positive impact on every life he touched.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Patullo.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Patullo, his loving son, Brendan Redmond-Patullo, his dear mother, Theresa Patullo, his siblings, Nancy Kozic and husband Steve, Lorraine Dietrich and husband Richard, and Nicholas Patullo and wife Lori, his caring brothers-in-law Jim Redmond, John Redmond and wife Peggy, and Michael Redmond and wife Annmarie, as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00AM on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at The Church of The Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home beginning at 8:00AM to pay their final respects before the Mass.
Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
