Dennis William Herbst, died peacefully on February 20, 2025.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to the late Louis and Ethel Herbst (Gunyon), he was a graduate of Canarsie High School. Mr. Herbst went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army, serving
two tours during the Vietnam War. After his Honorable Discharge, he went on tomeet and marry the love of his life, Terri Stien. The two settled to the Canarsieneighborhood in Brooklyn where they raised their family. Mr. Herbst was a machinist with Damon Dress on Broadway in Manhattan handling the garment blueprint press until his retirement.
The Herbst family enjoyed their quality time together at holidays and barbecues. Dennis was known for his humor and ability to bring life to the party. He found the most joy spending quality time with his family creating memories. Dennis was a proud veteran who loved his country, his collection of eagles, belt buckles, and
knives were an expression of his passion. He silently served other veterans, offering his time to those who found themselves homeless and coordinating their care in the community. Dennis was a selfless man who was reliable and it showed in all he committed himself to in life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Terri.
Surviving are his loving children, Marc Herbst and wife Lori, Jason Herbst and wife Maureen, his adored grandchildren Victoria, Scott, and Justin, his dear siblings, John Herbst, Donald Herbst and wife Susan, and Diane Scalesi, as well as his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville with prayer services to take place at 7:30PM.
Interment will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, New York.
