Curtis A. Jones, 75, died on March 23, 2023.
Born in Manville to the late Charles Jr. and Allie Lee Jones (nee Johnson), he was raised in Somerville and a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1966. His high school athletic career spanned four years varsity in track and field and cross country. He also played softball for Royals A.C. Curtis was inducted into the Somerville Highschool Hall of Fame for his remarkable performance throughout, beating athletes that went on to the Olympics and bringing honor and respect to Somerville in his commitment to the sport.
Mr. Jones went on to serve his country in the United States Army just six months after his high school graduation. During his enlistment, our country entered into the Vietnam War, where his valiant spirit came forth seeing active combat for fifteen months. He was a parachutist, sharpshooter, and marksmen, with automatic and rifle experience. His service to our country awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Silver Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal, First Class Unity Citation Badge, amongst his qualifications of service that led him to be a decorated serviceman.
Like most men who faced combat, Curtis came home and had to look for work and start a new life from scratch. He settled back to his hometown of Somerville and started to work for the Local 475 Pipefitters where he spent his career. He met his former wife Kathy and married in 1971 and raised his cherished daughters in his hometown. He was an avid car enthusiast and loved being outside. Most of all, he loved the quality time spent with his family, bringing a happiness and enrichment to his life that was hard to find.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents and dear brothers, Willis, Morris, and Charlie III “Red” Jones.
Surviving are his loving daughters Kisha and Randi, his former wife Kathy, his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Isaiah, Alyssa, Ashley, and Ellianna, his dear siblings, Catheran Smith, Rosa Hoffman, and David Jones, as well as his many nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday April 10, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Cusick Funeral Home.
