Christine M Smith

Christine M Smith nee Higgins entered into eternal life on September 30th, 2024. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, and aunt, Christine was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. A graduate of Midwood high school in 1968, Christine went on to become a successful businesswoman, starting her career on Wall Street at Irving Trust before branching out to become part owner of a thriving interior design company in Manhattan.

Christine enjoyed living life to the fullest by experiencing new things, skiing the west and northeast with friends, summers in the Hamptons with the girls, and witnessing the thrill of her beloved NY Mets winning the 1969 World Series.

Christine met her future husband Stephen Smith Sr. in 1967 through mutual friends, although they wouldn't date until many years later. The couple married in 1984, eventually moving to Bridgewater NJ where they built a life filled with love, family, friendships, and 40 years of cherished memories. The Smith home was the heart of the neighborhood, known for their legendary pool parties and BBQs.

Often the life of the party at family reunions, Christine brightened every room she walked into. She looked forward to summer family vacations in Ocean City, Maryland among other places, often alongside her beloved brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Kathy Higgins. She enjoyed hobbies such as playing darts, completing jigsaw puzzles, and competing nightly from her living room in gameshows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

A member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 12, Christine was an active and valued member of the community. Christine’s greatest pride, however came from being a loving and devoted grandmother, attending every dance recital, baseball game, and birthday party.

She is preceded in death by her father Peter J Higgins Sr. and her brother Peter J Higgins Jr.

Christine is survived by her loving mother Maureen Higgins, her devoted husband, Stephen Smith Sr., her brothers Robert and Jimmy, and Sister Cathy Higgins. She leaves behind her children Stephen Jr. and wife Christie, Ryan and wife Lena, Kenneth and wife Dayna, her grandchildren Desiree, Ace, Austin, Addison, and her unborn granddaughter, due in December.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:00AM at The Church of The Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.
