Christine C.
Schueler
Mar 9, 1972 — Jun 5, 2026
Raritan
Christine Schueler, “Chrissy” 54, passed away due to complications from late stage lung cancer on June 5, 2026.
Born on March 9, 1972 in Freehold, NJ to the late Patricia Ann (nee Klein) and Conrad “Butch” Schueler, she was raised in Farmingdale, NJ and graduated from Freehold Regional High School in the Class of 1992. Chrissy went on to work at AMC Movie Theatres at the Freehold Mall for nearly a decade.
Chrissy enjoyed many years camping and fishing at Island Beach State Park in the family truck camper. As season pass holders, they spent nearly every weekend there. The shore was where she was happiest. She woke up 50’ from the ocean every weekend and ate fresh fish caught by her Dad. Her favorite spot to park the camper was along the north jetty of the Barnegat Inlet so she could watch the boats come and go.
Chrissy was famous for her dry sense of humor and her ability to hear around corners. She always hung back to watch the activity, but when someone encouraged her to sing along, or join in dancing, she usually was happy she did! She loved those who loved her, especially the ones who knew how to poke fun at her, just like she grew up doing with her Mom.
Chrissy was a creature of habit and knew what she liked: she was always up for a trip to Dunkin’ for unsweetened iced tea or a bite to eat at Applebees. She loved cats and she was a movie buff, able to recall movie details from 30+ years ago. She also loved taking a long car ride, especially when her sister picked her up to head toward salty, beach air with 60s and 70s hits jamming. For all her routines, she could surprise you: she loved celebrating her 50th birthday by taking a cruise to the Caribbean with her sister and nieces.
In later years, Chrissy spent most holidays and special occasions with her Mom or sister Patty’s family. When with her Mom (Pat Schueler), the usual routine was catching a movie, eating at The Shrimp Box as the boats went by, and battling it out over a good game of Scrabble. When at Patty’s, she loved spending time with her nieces, Sydney and Kay, whether heading to Six Flags Great Adventure or going out for a game of bowling that Chrissy always won.
The rest of the year, day in and day out for the past two decades, Chrissy was cared for by the loving staff at Alternatives. She started living in a single managed apartment, and as she got older, lived in a beautiful group home in South Bound Brook. She had a favorite spot on the couch, where she camped out to watch TV (especially Penn State football) with her housemates. She enjoyed going on outings and taking part in Alternatives fundraisers like the 5K Dignity Dash. For the past 4 years, she dressed up to attend the Dignity Gala with her family and friends.
She is survived by her sister Patty (Schueler) Vollmar and brother-in-law Pete of Basking Ridge, their children, Sydney and Kay Vollmar, her many cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and her adored Alternatives family.
Her friends and family are welcome to gather for a Memorial Visitation from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. A short service will be held at 4:30 PM.
