Catherine "Kay" (Monari) Gentile died January 3 at home. Mrs. Gentile was born in Somerville and resided there before moving to Bridgewater in 1997.

A graduate of Somerville Hospital School of Nursing, Kay was their salutatorian and president of the graduating class of 1945. She went onto work at the now Somerset Medical Center as an operating room nurse.

Mrs. Gentile was a former stewardess for American Airlines. Her memberships included the Red Cross and St. Bernard Church in Bridgewater.

Her husband, Dr. Ernest Gentile, predeceased her in 2002 after 57 years of marriage. Also her children Richard (Dickie) and Jacqueline (Jackie) and siblings Edward Monari, Sandy Mundy and Maisy Bertram predeceased her. Surviving are her son Thomas Gentile, her granddaughter Jessica, and siblings Helen Gulick and Dr. Jay Monari.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Tuesday, January 7, at the St. Bernard Church, 500 Highway Route 22 (Eastbound), Bridgewater. Entombment to follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum. Visiting will begin 9:30am on Tuesday morning, January 7, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville prior to Mass.
