Carolyn L. Griffin, age 89, a resident of Somerville for more than 50 years passed away peacefully on Sunday at Robert Wood Johnson - Somerset after a short illness.

Born in West New York, New Jersey, she graduated from the Nurse Cadet Corps at Jersey City Medical Center in 1947, and served as a registered nurse for more than four decades before her retirement from the V.A. Medical Center, Lyons in 1997.

Carolyn was a long-time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and an avid member of the I.C. Leisure Club, the Somerset County Senior Women's Group, the Lyons Leisure Club and the Jersey City Medical Center Alumni Association.

She is predeceased by her husband Martin Vincent Griffin, her son Paul Amitrani, and her granddaughter Jamie Leigh Malloy.

Carolyn is survived by her sister Joan Heymer of Princeton, her daughters Denise Amitrani of Tinton Falls and Leigh Malloy of Hillsborough, her daughter-in-law
Irene Amitrani of Bridgewater and her son Thomas Griffin of Landing, together with nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and other loving family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 11, at 9:30am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 10, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Cusick Funeral Home in Somerville. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.

In accordance with Carolyn's wishes, the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hemophilia Association of New Jersey and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
