Carmen Lapola, known to many as Carmencita, died December 6 at Somerset Medical Center. She was born in Queens, NY "En El Barrio" section which she described to her children and grandchildren in personal stories of her old days. The eldest daughter of five children born to the late Angela and Armando Gonzalez, Carmen came to Somerville when she was 13 yrs. old. She attended Somerville High School and Somerset County Vo-Tech for Cosmetology. Carmen was adored by everyone that met her. Some may remember her as one of the first women to pump gas at Bud's Amoco on Park Ave. in Somerville in the late 1980s or most recently as a receptionist for Dr. Boni in Pluckemin helping Spanish speaking patients. Surviving are her husband Victorino, her loving children Emiliano Gonzalez, Samantha Portillo and Desiree Castro, her adoring grandchildren Ashley, Crystal, Jordan and Amaris and her siblings Hector, Angie and Armando. Visiting hours will be held from Thursday, December 9 from 6pm concluding with a Prayer Service at 8pm at the Cusick Funeral Home in Somerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
