Carmen Federici, nee Varchi, died peacefully on April 12, 2022, in Hopewell. Born in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Dr. Mario and Margaret Varchi, her family settled to New Jersey when she was four years old. She went on to graduate from Mary Mount Academy in Rome, Italy where she lived with her aunt and uncle who were the Cuban Ambassadors to the Vatican. It was during this time in Italy while studying music that she developed her love for classical music and opera. Carmen graduated from Caldwell College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She dedicated 30 years teaching music at Bridgewater Raritan H.S. East where she shared her love of music with generations of students. Carmen devoted her time to the Immaculate Conception Church Choir for 25 years and has been a resident of Bridgewater since 1960. She had a summer house at Chadwick Beach where she was on the Board of Trustees for 35 years and was president of the beach club 6 times. Carmen was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed sharing her love of music with those who knew her. She loved to play Bridge and spend time reading. Most of all, she enjoyed the quality time creating memories with her loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph, her son Joseph Victor, her granddaughter Caryn Wilson, and her brother Joe Varchi. She is survived by her loving daughter Carmen Wilson and husband Curt, her cherished granddaughter Carissa Kurowski and husband Tim, her great granddaughter Eliana, her sister-in-law Arlene Varchi, her niece Mimi Default and husband Jim, her niece Demi Little and nephews Michael Federici and wife Leslie, Mark Federici and wife Lisa, Thomas Federici and wife Suzanne, William Federici and wife Sue, Steven Federici and many great nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2022, from 3:00 to 7:00PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at The Church of The Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home beginning at 8:30AM. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.
