Betty Montville

Betty Jane Montville, 99, died peacefully at home on September 7, 2023.

Born in Pittston, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Elizabeth Para, nee Kowalchek, she was a coal miner’s daughter and the youngest of nine children. She resided in Port Blanchard with her family where she was a graduate of Jenkins High School.

Betty met her husband, the late Frank Montville, while still living in Pennsylvania. The couple moved to Bridgewater in 1953 where she worked as a homemaker, maintaining the family home and caring for their sons Thomas and Robert. She also selflessly dedicated thirty years of volunteering to Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, New Jersey. In addition, she was a poll worker for many years.

One of Betty’s greatest passions that she shared with her husband was weekly bingo night at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, even bringing her grandchildren on some nights to help out. She also loved spending time down in Atlantic City, playing the nickel slots while Frank enjoyed a stroll on the boardwalk. Above everything, Betty truly cherished the time she spent with her family, friends, and especially her great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Para, her beloved husband Frank, and her dear son Robert.

Surviving are her son Thomas Montville and partner Ilene Levine, her daughter-in-laws Nancy Montville and Karen Montville, her grandchildren Matthew Montville and fiancé Beatrice Cappuccia, Christopher Montville and wife Sarah Parady, and Rebecca Montville and husband Krzysztof Kozlowski, her great-grandchildren Elek, Ada, Max, Imogen, and Oscar, and her friends and dedicated, loving caregivers Debbie Brightbill and Rose Awuku.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Monday, September 11, 2023, at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Somerville.
