Betty Kane, née Stelzer, 87, died peacefully on January 24, 2024.
Born in Irvington to the late Leo and Anna Stelzer, née Scheuermann, she was raised in Union where she graduated from Union High School. Betty went on to become a medical technician. A chance meeting on a ride to a wedding in a snowstorm with broken windshield wipers, she met the love of her life, Michael Kane. They married and settled in Bridgewater where they raised their family.
The Kane family loved nothing more than vacationing down the shore. This led to their eventual family beach home, which hosted generations of family memories to last a lifetime. Betty was widowed young but remained active in both her friend group and church community. She left her career at Hoechst Celanese after almost twenty years but continued working to stay sharp and sociable (and she certainly was).
Betty later met and married Bill Corcoran and she started the next chapter of her life. She was a devout Catholic, and longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville. Most of all, she enjoyed the quality time spent with her family and close friends.
Betty always talked about how lucky she was to have had two devoted husbands throughout her life. Her beloved Mike, who passed away in 1988, and Bill, who passed away in 2015. She is also predeceased by her mother, father, and two infant grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Rick) and wife Sharon, Kathleen and husband Mike Calder, Jack and partner Diana Lima, her cherished grandchildren Corey Gucker, Kaleigh Gucker, and Emily Kane, her brother Dr. Lee Stelzer and wife Katie, her niece Lauren Stelzer, as well as her much loved extended family and friends, including Ronnie Bracht and her husband Bob, her dear friend for 47 years, her “KALIWALOOP” pals (Joan and Lawrence, Demi and Ralph), and her cousins both in Germany and the United States.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1890 Washington Valley Road, Martinsville. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home beginning at 8:30 AM.
