Barbara Joan Kreutzer, 79, died peacefully on April 18, 2023.
Born in Elizabeth to the late Robert and Helen Miller, Barbara was a graduate of Rahway High School in 1962. She then attended Berkely School of Business. After school, she went on to work at Garden State Parkway Highway Authority as an administrator.
As a sophomore in high school, she went on a date with a young man named Gary. After only having eyes for each other for four years, they married in 1964 and settled in Hillsborough to raise their family. Their feelings for each other only deepened with time, and their relationship became a model of true love for everyone who knew them.
While raising her family, Barbara joined City Federal Credit Union for multiple years. She then moved on to work at Somerset Home for Temporary Displaced Children in Raritan.
Some of Barbara’s fondest memories were travelling in her and Gary’s motorhome down to Disney for family vacations with her children. The family would always get a laugh and say that mom actually walked to Florida, because she was always standing in the kitchen feeding her family home cooked meals. She was a lover of crafts, but her favorite pastime was shopping. She was exceptionally generous, and most of her shopping was buying treats for her loved ones.
The only thing that could compare to the love she felt for her children was her love for her grandchildren. After first being diagnosed with breast cancer, Barbara retired early. This left her with the time to be more involved with her grandchildren’s lives. She helped raise them and shared her wisdom, which will be passed down for generations to come. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family any chance she could.
She was a fighter and advocate for breast cancer research, donating and supporting numerous organizations made her proud.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gary and her parents Robert and Helen Miller.
Surviving are her loving daughters, Melissa Cobb and husband Mark Cobb, and Heidi Von Horn and husband Fred Von Horn, her cherished grandchildren, Jacquelyn Cobb, Ashley Von Horn, and Derek Von Horn.
