Angelina, Ann “Dolly” Pizza passed peacefully on December 31, 2023.
Born on November 2, 1925, and raised in Newark, New Jersey on North 6th and 7th streets to the late Thomas and Frances Gallucci (nee Carbone) almost one hundred years ago. Dolly lived an “old world” home life. She was the eldest of three children along with brothers Pat and Thomas. She learned to cook homemade Italian food from a very young age and refined it to perfection over the years. Dolly met the love of her life, Charles Pizza, and the two were married and settled in Hackensack, New Jersey. She raised two children, Joseph, and Amelia (Missy). Joseph was tragically lost at age 26 in 1976 and Missy born disabled. Dolly and Missy spent every day of their lives with each other until Missy’s passing in 2019.
Dolly was a gifted artist as was her brother Thomas. That talent came via her mother’s maternal side (Sisto) in Italy. She created beautiful paintings on canvas and created stunning floral arrangements from natural and artificial flowers. Dolly was a stoic woman with incredible strength who remained strong through many life tragedies. Despite the difficulties she faced Dolly was always lighthearted and had an amazing sense of humor while also having a “prankster” side to her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, loving son Joseph, daughter Missy, her brothers Pat and Thomas. Pat’s son Thomas. Brother Thomas’s children, Fran, and Thomas C. Gallucci and his son Thomas Gallucci. Also, her Cousins Basil Palma, Pat, and Joseph Gallucci, Ann (Bibby) Polci and her son Manny Polci and Pat’s daughter Lucille Gallucci.
Surviving are her loving nieces and nephews, Dr John Gerard Gallucci, his children Seth, Arielle, and Gemma. Nieces, Pattie Friedrich and son Carl, Maria Shaw and son Eric, Roseann Longo and son Jerry, Valerie Polci, Thomas Christopher Gallucci, Michele Gallucci, Tina Gallucci, Angela Slater and daughter Delaney, Debbie Calabrese Gallucci and son Michael Gallucci.
