Andrew Kavanagh

Andrew Kavanagh, 89, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 3, 2023.


Born in Manville, New Jersey to the late James and Mildred Kavanagh nee Pulvermaker, he attended Bound Brook High School. Andrew went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge in 1955, he worked for Brookside Creamery and met the love of his life, Bette Hamshar. The two were married and settled in Dunellen where they raised their family.


Andrew was a master mason and started Action Masonry where he dedicated over forty years to his craft. After his retirement, he decided to return to work at Volvo of Bridgewater until he was 80 years old.


Andrew was active in retirement. He was a member of the Watchung Hills Elks. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Somerville where he volunteered regularly.


Mr. Kavanagh was a family man and a character in his own right. He was an avid motorcycle rider and rode until he was 85. Andrew enjoyed trips to the Jersey shore and Mexico. He was happiest when his family was together. His greatest joy in life was being a father and grandfather, always ready to support his family in any way.

He was preceded in death by his dear son Timothy, and his siblings, Ruth, James, Arthur.


Surviving are his beloved wife, Bette Kavanagh, his loving children, Beth Warren and husband Douglas, Thomas Kavanagh and wife Michele, Raymond Kavanagh and wife Stephanie, and Nancy Rannazzisi and husband Salvatore, his cherished grandchildren, Drew, Kyle, Heather, Shawn, Brandon, Rebecca, Erin, Nicholas, Andrew, and Nathan, great-grandson Hunter, his dear brother Martin “Pat” Kavanagh, his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.


Memorial contributions may be made in Andrew’s memory to the charity of your choice.


Private entombment with military honors will be conducted at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.
