Alma Florence Cotugno (nee DeMuzio), 97, died peacefully on November 22, 2025.
Born in Newark to the late Luigi and Paolina DeMuzio, Flo, as she was called by all who knew and loved her, was raised in Newark, NJ. She went on to meet the love of her life, Armand Cotugno, and the two were married in 1950. She spent most of her married life in Irvington, NJ where she raised their son, later moving to Union, then splitting her time between Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Lake Sunapee, NH and subsequently returning to her home state to Holiday City Berkeley in Toms River. Here, she and Armand became parishioners of St. Joseph RC Church of Toms River and members of the Italian-American Club.
Over the years, she worked switchboard for several New Jersey companies including Lionel Corporation in Hillside, New Jersey Bell Technologies in Newark and then was with All-State Legal Supply in Cranford from 1972 until retiring in 1994. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and cards, and had been a member of Maplewood Country Club, golfing with her ladies’ foursomes and as couples with Armand and cousins Louis and Marie Ramella. Florence’s most recent move was to Bridgewater, NJ to be closer to her sisters and family, where she rarely missed a bingo game or a bus trip to….well wherever. Here, she became a parishioner of The Church of The Immaculate Conception in Somerville. She loved her toy poodles but really had a soft spot for any dog and, regardless of where she resided, sought social activities, loved being with people, always found a “partner in crime” (or several), and truly brought life to the party.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Amedeo “Armand” Cotugno in 2010, as well as by her sisters, Rose DiMartino and Louise Capozzi.
She is survived by her son Victor Cotugno and wife Sarah of Leesville, SC (formerly of New Boston, NH), her cherished grandchildren Victoria, Katherine, and Christopher, her loving sister Anna Greco (DeMuzio), her nieces Anita and Anne Marie, nephews Jack and Louis, as well as the many cousins, nieces and nephews descending from the Ramella, DeMuzio and Cotugno families who loved their Aunt Flo dearly.
