Albert Joseph Macchi, Jr of Palmyra, Virginia, died Friday, January 17, 2020, after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Somerville, New Jersey, on June 5, 1951, Albert was the son of Albert and Ann Macchi.
Al started his career in the construction business, but as he became more aware of various health practices, he began to explore the healing power of yoga, eventually getting his teacher certification at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas. He was the guiding force of the Body Balance Center, a yoga studio in Pottersville, NJ. Al took yoga to a new level – he was devoted to his practice and was the North Star to many of his students helping them to find their strength and confidence in yoga. After 66 years of living in New Jersey, Albert and his wife Lisa moved to Lake Monticello in Virginia and began a new journey. Al spent many beautiful days sitting on his deck enjoying the tranquil views of the lake with his four dogs.
Al had a wonderful life with his wife, Lisa, daughter Amanda, son-in-law Robert and his new grandson Sam. He leaves behind his two sisters, Elizabeth Malloy and Marian Thompson, his brother-in-law Donald Thompson, nieces Katharine Thompson(Taylor Frank), and Leslie Thompson (Micheal Strauss), nephews Paul Malloy and John Malloy and his aunt, Jean Lucas. He was known for his kind soul and his gentle spirit. He listened carefully and responded with care. He will be missed by all.
A time of visitation and reflection will be held from 5-8 pm on Thursday, January 23rd at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave in Somerville, NJ and there will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 24th at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church at 35 Mountain Ave in Somerville NJ.
