Alan M. Garay, 49, of Branchburg, died January 27th, after a prolonged illness. He was born December 14, 1964, in Hunterdon, NJ, graduated from Immaculata High School, and was a life­long resident of central New Jersey.

He became interested in computers and programming at an early age. In 1983, Alan was one of four worldwide finalists, ultimately placing 2nd in the "Defend Atlantis Challenge", which was held in Bermuda by Imagic, for its "Atlantis" video game for the Atari 2600 gaming system. He excelled at several programming languages and
made his living designing, programming, andmaintaining commercial & e-commerce websites. Alan put his considerable programming skills to use as an avid electronic musician and was an accomplished painter, sketch artist, poet and writer.

Known for an acerbic wit and sharp debating skills, he was
not afraid to take on all comers on any subject from politics to physics to art to cinema. Raconteur and Chef; pizza with the family will never be the
same. He never, ever paid retail for anything.

He is survived by his mother, Donna Callahan Garay;
brothers Don (wife Marian), David, Mark, Dale (wife Cindy),Tim, and Chris; sisters Laurie Roche (husband George),Dr. Cassandra Fesen (husband Dr. Robert), Michelle, Tricia (husband Fred Schneider), and Nancy (husband Mark Segal); nephews David, Evan, Brian, and Max; and nieces Ann­Marie and Carolyn. He was pre­deceased by his father, John W., and brother the Rev. Edward.

Alan was a champion of animal rights, and cherished the
company of many pets over the years. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made to Wildlife Rescue PA, PO Box 71, Friendsville, PA. 18818.

As Alan himself stated that "my most enduring legacy is
likely to be my crazy shirts", guests are encouraged to wear their wildest Hawaiian shirt to the services in his memory.

Visitation will be held at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave, Somerville, on Thursday,January 30, from 6PM to 9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave. Somerville on Friday, January 31 at 11:30AM.
