Helene Arianas Pappas, 87, wife of the late William Gus Pappas, Esq. and daughter of the late Catherine Achaves and Apostolos Arianas, died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, February 13, 2015.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Helene Pappas was raised in South River, New Jersey, and, following her marriage, resided in Niagara Falls, New York, and then Bridgewater, New Jersey where she lived for the past 47 years. She received her B.S. from Rider University and her Ed. M. from Rutgers University. She taught at South River High School, Niagara-Wheatfield Consolidated Schools (New York), Mount St. John Academy, Somerset County Technical Institute, and the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School. At the last-mentioned, she was selected Teacher of the Year.

As a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway, New Jersey, Mrs. Pappas taught and served as Director of the Sunday School for 40 years. She and her husband were also members of the St. George Expansion Committee, which in 1988, enlarged the church facilities to accommodate the more than 350 students of the Sunday School.

Helene Pappas was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, William Gus Pappas; her sisters, Bertha and Eugenia Arianas, and her brothers, Kenneth and Constantine Arianas. She is survived by her children, Margaret Pappas and husband Lawrence Dultz, Dean Pappas and wife Alexandra Petas Pappas, Catherine Pappas and husband William Carman; her grandchildren Caroline, Elizabeth and Sarah Dultz, William and Eleni Pappas, and Arianna and Alyssa Carman; her brother Stephen Arianas and wife, Constance Arianas, and sister-in-law Mary Arianas; nieces Kathleen Notte and Stephanie Arianas and nephews Paul Constantine Arianas and Paul Stephen Arianas. She is also survived by the family of her late husband, sisters-in-law Angeline Pappas and Judy Pappas, and many nieces and nephews in the Midwest, as well as numerous grand-dogs and grand-cats.

Helene was a dedicated and beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. She will be sorely missed, but her legacy will remain.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 22 from 5-9 p.m. at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, NJ. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 23 at 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, NJ, followed by interment at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy, NJ.
